Lightbulb Painting over Wallpaper w/ Plaster walls

I just bought a older home and the walls are plaster with wallpaper over them! Some rooms have layers of wallpaper (old)! Can I just paint over them or do I remove everything first!! Not sure what to do with plaster walls!!!

Welcome to the forum

Usually it is best to remove the wall paper. Sometimes when wallpaper is painted the moisture in the paint tends to lift the paper off the walls. Ocasionally on older homes the plaster is in bad shape and the wallpaper is actually holding it together. I would try and remove the paper on 1 wall and see what you have. It is normal for there to be some need of minor repairs to the walls to get them in shape for paint. If the plaster behind the wallpaper is crumbly, then you need to either leave the paper on the wall or plan on extensive plaster repair. I'm not trying to scare you, just prepare you for the worst case senario. The odds are that the walls are solid and will only need cosmetic repair.
