Question Prime retextured ceiling?

Just had a contractor remove the popcorn ceiling and retexture a light orangepeel. The contractor said that I don't need to prime before I paint but everything I read says unpainted drywall must be primed. Anyone have an opinion on this? Thanks!

I would prime it, for sure.
Contractor's don't know paint, just like I don't know remodeling.

The orange peel texture will probably cover with 1 coat of flat latex, but will look better if you prime it.
