House Paint

Hi, I was wondering what most people choose to paint their house, semi gloss or flat? I am re-doing my porch and was wondering which would look best? Thanks

Many houses that I have seen were painted flat on the siding and semi-gloss on the trim. The flat does not show surface defects as much as those finishes with more gloss. Semi-gloss is easier to clean for those dirty hand prints on doorways and such.

Thank You, I am going to paint it white. I already have it primed, but I am not sure I like it since the primer is flat white anyway. Will Flat white look any different than the primer?

You can pick the "color" of your flat white. There is white white, slightly grayer, slightly yellower...there is white that you think- "that is white", until you put white white next to it! Will it matter on a porch...not one nanosecond IMO. Lyn Clarke

Exterior latex paint comes in 3 basic sheens -flat, satin and gloss. If you don't like the look of flat on your siding why not use satin and trim with gloss [or satin in another color]

Thank You, never thought about satin before. I think I'll try that. If I dont like it, is it possible to paint over it with flat or semi gloss at any point?

scored foam roller question

I have just finished painting 24 rough 4 x 8 foot sheets of sheathing with one roller cover. Now my question is -where did I find this cover? It is yellow foam with score marks so that there are 3/8 inch squares all over the cover. The center core is plastic. I now need to paint the exterior sheeting but I hate to switch to oil base and lose this cover. I can find the Linzer foam covers but they do not have the scored squares. Can any one help? Why do the manufacturers not put there name on the inside of the roller? The package lasts only two seconds. Grrr- Lyn Clarke

tinting a clear finish

I would like to paint a bench with oil based black paint, sand some areas off, then apply a clear finish that has some brown or umber tint to dull the black down and tint the sanded areas. What kind of clear finish can be tinted and still remain clear?
