Question Touching up popcorn ceilings

I have popcorn ceilings and whenever I paint walls, try as I may not to, I end up getting paint smudges on the popcorn ceiling. What is the best way to cover/touch these up. Is there a special paint for touch ups of this nature?

You should use whatever paint was used to paint the ceiling.

If the ceiling was never painted, there is no touch-up material available.

Sometimes thinned down joint compound will work for touch up on un painted ceilings. Often whether painted or not any touch up on an old ceiling will appear whiter. If you just paint over what wall paint is on the ceiling the touch up is less likely to show and any way will look better than the color that has errantly gotten on the ceiling.
