Question Kitchen cabinets

We have a park model (small mobile home) and the cuboards are in need of some TLC, but I do not know how to paint them. The framework is made of fiber board with a photo paper over it to make you think it is wood. What do I have to do to paint the framework? We are putting on new doors that will be painted also.

I would prime the framework with a shellac-based primer/sealer such as BIN
Then paint with a quality latex

What do I use as a cleaner? One person told me to use tsp. I am sure that would loosen the paper. Where do I buy BIM?

Bin is available in the depot or any paint store. I would clean it with Greased Lightning available in the supermarket[where they sell Fantastic and stuff like that].Another good one is SOILAX PRO available in paint stores not the depot I would probably rinse it with a damp sponge if I used the Greased Lightning.

Here is another product that is not water based so the finish will not peel off[it won't]. It cleans and leaves a film on the surface so all you need to do is paint. Grease removal may require steel wool or scotch brite pad,and is best lleft to the Greased Lightning. TSP is not the same as it used to be. It is still a good degreaser though. I would rinse it with water even if it says you don't have to.

Some others have recommended using mineral spirits. Not a bad idea. I would follow with some Cover Stain from Zinsser

Basically ----get rid of the grease before you do anything!!!!

Any good household cleaner usually works fine. Just make sure that all cleaning residue is removed prior to painting.
