Removing paint from natural stone

Please help, someone painted the natural stone fireplace in my 1926 log cabin. First it was painted red, then painted white. The white is coming off with heat, but I can't get the red off. Any ideas!

Try lacquer thinner and a wire brush. Use with good ventilation and eye/hand protection.

Go to a masonry supply house & ask for cleaning products for your purpose.
You will need to know the type of stone, as the acid in cleaners is different for various stone composition.
We used one with hydrofluoric acid to remove paint from our sandstone windowsills, but it would not clean limestone 100%.
Masonry restoration companies work miracles, so you may seek advise from them.
read labels re fumes & eye protection etc, yada yada
