painting over antique glaze

I want to paint over some doors that currently have an "antique" finish. I'm not concerned with the uneven texture, so I won't be sanding them smooth. I am worried about paint adhesion though. Do I need to use an oil primer over the glaze or would a latex one be ok?

Depending on the type of glaze used you might be able to use latex. IMO when in doubt use a primer that you know will adhere - oil base or shellac, that way you know you won't have any problems
