Solid Color Exterior stain over T-111 siding

Just found these forums and this is first post.

I have several large outbuildings covered with faded cheap red stained T-111 siding. I would like to lighten them up a little with beige or cream colored stain. Would you pros recommend staining them or would paint be a better choice. I think I would prefer stain due to peeling problems with paint. What do you say? Stain or paint? Oil or Latex? Why?

Thanks

It is likely the cheap stain has become chaulky [does it leave a residue on your fingers] It is best to remove if possible. If not oil stain will be ok if using latex be sure to add emulsa bond to your first coat.
