Question Paint is too bright

I painted a room yellow, but it turned out to be much brighter than I thought. What can I do to tone it down? I've thought of sponging on a lighter yellow but I don't know if that will work. HELP!! Thanks

If it was just done, I'd give it a week or so
It could be the shock of the difference depending on what color was on there before

The sponging is a nice idea, but I doubt it would really tone it down enough if you think it is way to bright
In other words, yes technically it could tone it down, but not much, I don't know if it will be enough

The best for sure way is to choose a calmer yellow and re-paint

I once painted a sales office the gaudiest brightest green you ever saw. I thought it looked horrible but when I returned and saw it after all the walls had a lot of things half covering them up - it really looked good. What I'm trying to say is if you hang pictures, curtains etc it may turn out to be satisfactory.

^^^ what they said!

give it a chance - let the shock wear off, and see how it looks without the drop cloth on the floor, the furniture moved back in, the draperies hung & the pictures put back. you might love it!

if, after doing the above, you really do hate it, the best/easiest way to fix it is to just pick another color of yellow - a much more dulled yellow, maybe more of a wheat/tan/gold color, or a much paler yellow, more like a cream, and just repaint. trying to decide on what color to use for sponging, glazing, rag rolling, etc. over what you've got, in hopes that the 2 will magically mix into the color you really wanted in the first place, will be much more difficult & time consuming, if possible at all.

just repaint.

Move everything back and hang the curtains/blinds and give it a week. Years ago, a neighbor painted his family room and breakfast nook a bright red. It was shocking! Once the furniture was moved back and pictures hung, it actually lookd pretty good.

If its still too bright - repaint.
