please help! I need to repaint an interior wall. previously this wall had verticle stripes painted on it - then someone attempted to paint over these stripes - obviously you can still see the image of the stripes through the new paint - you see the stripe not the old color coming through.
what are my options for resulving this problem?

It is always possible that the wall just needs another coat of paint.
If the painted stripes are thicker [or raised] you would need to use spackling or joint compound to smooth the transition. Just apply a thin coat of mud over the edges of the stripes. Sand when dry, dust and prime. You should then be ready for paint.
