It is good primer but using a primer designed for new drywall would be more cost effective.

Yes, much more cost effective
Your local Paint Shop can set you up with the proper primer and a good match for your color coats

There is never any reason for two coats of primer
(aside from stain sealing, but that should be a spot sealer, then prime-one coat each)

Thanks. I heard Zinsser was very good but I didnt know which kind to get. Label on the 1-2-3 says its for drywall, etc. Whats the name of Zinssers product I should use?

TIA

Most Zinsser products are good
I use and refer them all the time
But what marksr and I are saying is that it's a little over-kill/over-price for this app
We would, for example, if using Sherwin Williams for the color coat, use the Sherwin Williams primer for drywall, ditto for Ben Moore
New drywall is rarely a problem area
We wouldn't use a Zinsser in this case

If you would like to use a Zinsser product, the 1-2-3 is the product you want to use
