Cement floor prep with muriatic acid before painting

How is muriatic acid used to prep cement floors. Does it have to be thoroughly rinsed off of the concrete before painting?

I seldom paint concrete floors. If I remember correctly you only need to acid wash new concrete prior to painting and yes it would need to be throughy rinsed. Old concrete only needs a good cleaning to ready it for paint.

You can get more advice pertaining to concrete paint at a paint store where you would purchase the floor paint.

The acid is used to etch the concrete, ie) give the paint more bite. The acid also does some cleaning. And yes, it should be thoroughly rinsed before painting.

If you plan to stain the concrete, don't use the acid until you've read the directions. There are different types of concrete stains. One type is an acid stain. If you use muriatic acid on the floor before using the acid stain, you've rendered the acid stain useless.
