Paint not sticking

I painted some stained base boards with a simi gloss latex paint. The paint is not adhering well to the base board. I used a deglosser before painting. What could be my problem and how do I fix it?

A scuff sanding and a solvent-based primer would solve the problem

I agree, what brand paint did you use? Some paints stick better than others but priming with oil or shellac is the main thing.

sticking paint

I used Glidden simi gloss. I have had the same problem with painting paneled doors in the house. The paint seems to peel off. Thanks for the advice. I'm guessing that the stain was oil based.

I assume the doors were stained also. Stain almost always has poly/varnish as a top coat. Latex will not adhere to poly/varnish without first cleaning, sanding and then applying a solvent based primer.
