painting over stain

What do I use to paint over oil based stain?: I stained a talbe and don't like the results, going to use the same colour in paint. Help

Apply a couple coats of primer/sealer like Zinnser before painting.

Most any quality solvent based primer will work. One coat is usually sufficent providing all surfaces are coated - doesn't neccesarily need to be completely covered with primer, just completely coated - no missed spots.

Zinsser makes over 40 different primers/sealers.

Like marksr said, use an alkyd or oil primer.
