paint ceiling tile?

One room in my 1940's house has tile on the ceiling I'd like to paint. The tile has a flat (not shiny) orange-peel surface. It's 12" x 24" rectangles. I've seen it many times in old homes but don't know what it's called. It's NOT the square tiles with wormholes. I have some PVA primer I used over drywall so could easily prime with that. Any suggestions? I could take a photo if that would help
Thanks
Boze

Sounds like drop ceiling panels, which can be painted.
