The Lazy painter.....I Hate Sanding!

Hello, New here. Sorry if I am about to ask information they may have already been covered. Over the holiday weekend I hope to finish a project I started 3 years ago. I am covering dark paneling which I already primed with Kiltz but have now decided to texture to avoid having to do any more sanding.

This place is up for sale and funds are limited so instead of buying premixed texture wall paint I was wondering if I can mix my premixed paint color with joint compound to also avoid an extra step in the process. My brother did this years ago on the ceiling (and maybe the walls too can't remember) in an old apartment that was in an old building with crooked walls, but I can't remember how to mix them together so that it's not too thick or too thin.

The worst of the sanding was done [or should have been] before the primer was applied. The paneling should only need a light scuff sanding to ready it for paint.

I would advise against using joint compound over paneling.
