Painting rusted baseboard

I have very little painting expierence. I have about a 2 foot section of rusted baseboard I wish to paint. The baseboard is in my basement bathroom.

Can I get some help on what type of paint to use and prepartation ?

Since it my basement I can live witha less that professional job.

Thanks

I don't believe I have ever run across any steel baseboard.

It would be best to sand off the rust down to clean metal. Then prime with oil base primer [rust inhibitive primer would be best] and then finish with oil base enamel.

thanks

Thanks for the help.

I am not sure the baseboard is steel. I do not the metal is over 50 covered with rust. It only 2 feet long, I may try to buy a new cover section.
