Using a very fine sandpaper or steel wool should lessen the sheen. Can you get the same color in a lower gloss?

Try 1000 grit wet sand paper. You may need to go to an auto parts or auto body supply store to find it.
Sometimes burnishing the finish with a soft rag will work. Usually it will give flat a little sheen but it might take away some sheen.
