need help with metal lamps

I don't know if this is the right forum for this. I have a pair of silver based modern lamps. the silver on them is uneven - it looks dull in parts and very shiny in others, almost as if a layer of polish had come off. I don't know the metal - might be some kind of chrome or brushed metal. Any recommendations on restoring the even shine to these pieces? Any metal paint that would work without looking "metallic"?

Thanks

If they are a quailty product they shouldnt be chrome or chrome plated..if this is what it is and has flaked off..the rest would have to come off and then "painted" or replated. Brushed nickel or another nickel finish is one of the more popular finishes
