painted acoustic ceiling tiles look great!

I posted a while back about painting acoustic ceiling tiles in the basement and got good responses that it would work. My husband was convinced it would look terrible and thought we should re-tile the whole ceiling. Well I painted it and it looks fantastic and I wanted to encourage others that this is a easy way to brighten that old basement ceiling.

I used a lot more primer than I thought I would (oh well it's still on sale) and I had to get a thicker roller. I put ceiling paint over the primer and it looks great.
The acoustic tiles I am referring about are the 1 ft sq staple up tiles.

Glad to hear it went well for you. Now that the tiles are sealed it shouldn't require as much paint next time.

Thanks for posting about painting acoustic tiles

I was going to ask if anyone had painted acoustic tiles when I found your post. Answers all of my questions about whether it is possible, any special equipment (thicker nap roller!), and what to expect (more primer will be used).

Like most jobs, it appears to me prepping will take as much time as the actual work. I will start this project tomorrow after visiting the paint store.

Thx,
TK

Painting Ceiling Tiles

Hi guys,

Painting ceiling tiles is a great way to add a custom look to your ceiling. Vinyl tiles tend to work the best in my opinion as many times there is no need for a primer and you can actually spray paint the tiles.

If anyone needs some advice, please feel free to ask.
