exterior painting prep

Can someone tell me if it is ok to use
some type of sand or media blaster to
remove 75 years of paint on my exterior
wood siding? Very tired of scraping, and
sanding...

Yes, you can media blast
Not really DIY friendly though
If the paint's 75 years old you probably have some lead issues too...that could be a big deal

Infrared heat paint remover is the only reasonably safe DIY lead paint removal I know of, and it's not a cheap machine
And it's not a quick or easy process
...and you'll still have the hazardous waste to get rid of

I have to say your safest bet is to call a qualified pro for this one
There is no cheap/easy/safe option

35+yrs ago I worked for a company that did a lot of sandblasting including wood siding. Besides the lead hazards there is a lot of clean up involved - there would be a LOT of sand and paint chips to remove.

Any sandblasting job as big as even 1 side of your house needs to be done with proffessional type equipment. One of the little sandblasters that runs off of an electric compressor would take a LOT longer than scraping or sanding.
