Latex paint questions

What is the difference between latex ceiling paint and latex wall paint? Can ceiling paint be used on walls, and the other way around too? I've got a gallon of ceiling paint and want to use it to paint closet walls.

Someone told me ceiling paint is chalky, so it would not be good on walls, but that does not sound right. I thought paint that chalks is of low quality. Any info is appreciated.

Ceiling paints typically dry to a flatter [zero sheen] finish than regular flat latex paint. They are formulated to help minimize any lap marks that can be a problem when painting a ceiling. They aren't formulated for wear or scrubbing.

Generally a ceiling paint isn't a good choice for walls although it may be ok for a closet. I wouldn't expect it to look good for as long as a good wall paint would = you may need to repaint sooner Because of the hassle of unloading the closet, I prefer to use a satin enamel in closets - the paint job tends to last longer
