General painting questions

A few questions for the experts:
My baseboards and trim were painted with oil paint (aargh..) My brother said I could paint over them with a primer and change it to latex. Is this true, do you think its worth it (twice the painting job) just so I don't have to hassle with the oil-based enamel.
One consideration, I have about half gallon of matched oil based paint.
What kind of primer do I use- a latex I assume?
If you say just use the oil base I have, what can I do to get the odor out quicker? One problem, I have a gas dryer, and my clothes smell like gas for a couple days after I paint. I wash almost every day. Should I run my stove vent while I paint? Would that help?
Thanks for all your thoughts!

Anytime you want to switch from an interior oil base enamel to latex, it needs to be coated with a solvent based primer first. Latex paint and most latex primers won't adhere to oil base enamel = paint failure
Latex paint will adhere great to an oil base primer.

Fresh air circulation is always the best method for removing any type of paint odor.
