Sand it, prime it and paint it. It's okay. Oil base primer is best, however, there are plenty of new WB products designed to be applied directly over oil base finishes. Sanding creates a "tooth" for mechanical adhesion. Coronado makes a WB product called "RUSTCAT". It can be applied to a shinny oil base finish without sanding as long as it is clean. This product will bind chemically, but I still recommend sanding.
