I have a porch all the way around my
house and just put up a porch railing
and painted the spindles different
colors...there has to be a better, less
tedious, faster way!!!!

Is it possible to mask the surrounding area (drape drop cloths, plastic, use cardboard shields, ect.)? If so, then why not spray.

I can sympathize with you. I have stained porch railing that needs a touch up of spar urethane every couple of years. It gets full afternoon sun.

Spraying is the best choice, but you must cover everything. A slight breeze will carry the paint to your car parked 100 feet away.

What you can try is wear rubber gloves and then use a cotton rag (cotton is a must!) instead of a brush. I do this with stains and wipe-on polys and urethanes. I've never tried it with paint. You'll still need a brush for touch-ups.
