painting the bathroom

I am new to diy jobs and am trying to remove old LAYERS of wallpaper and re-paint the bathroom. I have been successful in steaming off the wallpaper, but there seems to be paint underneath the two layers of wallpaper and some damage to the wall (hole, cracks). Not sure if the walls were finished and primed before the original walllpaper was put up. So far I have removed the paper and patched up holes. What should my next steps be before painting? Sanding, washing walls (what to wash with have researched and found TSP or 90% alcohol), primer, then paint?

Any suggestions welcome and appreciated.

Welcome to the forums!

Were you able to remove all the wallpaper adhesive?
How old is your home? do you know if the paint on the wall is oil base? or latex?

Obviously the repairs need to be sanded and primed.
