My ex husband preserved the outside walls of a fair sized wood building on our property with creosote. It is now 30 years later and the building is an ugly grey black color. Is there anything I can do??? I've been told it won't take paint or stain.. What could I do to improve its appearance?
Thank you

I have no chemical expertise but I would buy a small amount of solid body oil stain and try an area.I think in time the creosote will affect the finish but should be some time before it discolors. It would have to be better than the early telephone pole look your building is sporting now.BTW Cabots used to make a creosote based stain in the early 80's so you may have the ultimate finish when through.
