Scuff the varnish with #220 sandpaper. Wipe down and vacuum up dust. Prime with Benjamin Moore's FRESH START or Zinser 1-2-3. Top coat with latex or oil satin or semi-gloss. Good luck!
WE have an older home with some nice old doors we'd like to keep. However, they have several coats of paint on them. There is some oil-based paint with latex over it which peels right off. What do I have to do to prep these doors for latex paint? Do I strip them all the way down to bare wood (very, very time consuming), or do I just go down to the oil based layer and "rough it up". Or should I paint then using oil-based?
Thanks
