Question

Has anyone painted a steel door to look like wood ? The side that faces the inside, we want to look like a dark cherry/mahogany finish. We got a "graining" tool, but don't know what to paint on the door to run the tool through. Is there a specific glaze to use ? A specific paint for the undercoat ? An easier process than the tool ? Any guidance would be appreciated. Thanks !

just from what i have seen on tv i think that it is ZAR that makes the stains and paints that you need to do this... haven't ever done it so i really don't know how easy it will be.

Wink

You need "Wiping Stain" anb yes you need to paint on a base coat. It should be a background color in the graining of the wood you want to match. Graining a door is not easy I would recomend practicing on some plywood or something.
have fun )
