Question

Hi,

I'm trying to lighten up the color scheme in my kitchen and dining area. Presently I have a fairly dark paneling that I would like to change the color of. I don't think "paint" is the proper term, because I don't want to completely block out all evidence of panel, but would prefer to successfully coat with a white color that would permit the wood grain to show through. I think it would look nice. Can it be accomplished, and if so, how?

Thanks in advance,

Ray

First a good cleaning is in order.Wipe with mineral spirits or at the very least with some kind of grease cutting cleaner.A light sanding may be in order depending on how it feels after cleaning.I think that a glaze would accomplish your goal.I have been using Valspar glazes from Lowes and the colors can be mixed to suit you. This glaze can be brushed, sprayed, rolled or sponged.I would get a scrap piece of paneling to test since these glazes when dry can be very difficult if not impossible to remove.
