My bathroom has blue-ish green tiles in the shower and I want to paint the walls. It's a small space so I don't want to go too dark in color. How do I choose a color scheme to work with the ugly tiles and stay neutral in color?

Try painting the walls with a white satin finish paint. Then, with a sea sponge, sponge over The walls with same color white, only in a semi gloss. This will give you a tone on tone effect, and it's very forgiving if you've never sponge painted before. Finally pick a border that blends with the blue tiles, maybe a floral, or a geometric, whatever your taste. If your bathtub uses a shower curtain, look for coordinating curtains and borders. Have Fun!
