PAINTING TEXTURED CEILING

Question

I would like to scrap off the stuff off the ceiling. Can this be done?? Is there anything applied or can I just scrap if off then paint with flat ceiling latex paint?

It sounds as if you have the "popcorn" type texture (blown acoustic), it can be removed by misted with water(not too much) allowing a couple of minutes to soak and scrapping with a 6 or 10 inch tapeing knife, and as texture wiz said, being careful not to damage the existing tape or sheetrock. Most of the time, if it hasn't been painted, it will come off pretty easily, then you can touch up any bad places,sand lightly(if needed, prime and paint. If it has been painted, then it will leave the ceiling a lttle rough, which can skimmed out with joint compound, sanded,textured(if desired), primed then painted. Letting each application dry before resuming.
