Question

I am trying to paint our front door which
has a metal or steel coating. It has been previously painted. I was told at the paint store that a satin would work with no priming. However, it seems the paint peels off fairly easily. Is there anything I can put over the paint or do I need to scrape it off and start over another way?

Did you use a oil or latex paint? When doors are painted by painters, it will almost always be an oil based paint, if you simply go over this with a latex it can start peeling, lightly sanding and priming the existing paint with an oilbased primer would allow you to repaint with latex.

If it is indeed latex on oil, then whatever you coat it with without removal will not make the latex adhere, therefor removal is nesasary, then useing the above method for latex or useing an oilbased paint.
