Painting rough stucco

I just found out today that painting the rough stucco on the second story of the house is EXTREMELY time consuming. Is there any big problem with thinning the latex with water to make the process workable?

pianting stucco

Yes, I feel your pain. I just bought a 1917 two story key west style conch house which has stucco walls that have been covered up with siding for years. The stucco was in horrible shape as far as the paint went. My adice is to power spray the stucco to remove as much dirt and old paint flakes as possible. Let dry for a day or two. Go out and buy some paint that is made for painting stucco. I found out the hard way that if you use just regular paint it is going to flake on rough stucco. As far as time goes just try and make the best of it. I do a section at a time with a thick hand brush to make sure I get into the groves and depths of the rough stucco. I hope this helps.
