Unhappy

I recently moved into a 60+ year old bungelow and I have painted latex/acrylic paint over the door frames and some built in cabinets which were already coated with a slick semi-gloss, latex paint. Now that it is dry it looks fine, but I can scrape it off with my fingernell. My wife says thats the nature of latex paint. Surely, I can do better than this. Any suggestions?

Are you sure it was existing latex? Did you clean and lightly sand it prior to painting? Also, which brand of paint did you use?

Some latex paint takes a while to fully cure to maximum hardness, before I made a big mess, I would wait a while (week or 2) and see how it does, if it doesn't meet up with your requirements , then removing the paint may be nesasary for premium results, then priming it just to be sure and recoating with a quality paint from a pro paint store. Being sure to lightly sand (220 grit) and remove dust between applications.
