Question

We recently bought a house and would like to paint the interior. The walls have some sort of texture to them and we're not sure if it was done with paint or if there's a layer of something underneath providing the texture. I hate to put yet another layer of paint over the existing paint. What is the best way to strip interior walls of paint to start fresh?

Thanks!

Is there a reason not to repaint over the paint? I mean is it in bad condition, peeling and/or cracking or is it that you do not like the texture?

I would not suggest trying to srip the walls if the paint is in fair condition, if you don't like the texture i would suggest haveing a tape and bed man skim out the walls, maybe sanding them to knock down the roughness then skimming. Then you can re-texture to your preference or paint them slick.

If all you want to do is change the color then repainting is probably all you need to do. This site has many tips on repainting in the decorating menu above.
