My house has dark stained woodwork. I would like to have painted woodwork. I don't want the cost of replacing the entore homes woodworking. Is it possible to paint over stain and how do I go about it?

Yes it is possible to paint over stained woodwork.

Clean off any dirt or grease. Sand lightly with a 220 grit and wipe off dust, prime with an oil based primer(or undercoater), for best results sand lightly again (not too much, just to smooth) and paint. I would recomend a quality oil based paint for better durability but a good latex trim paint can be used. Be sure to get your materials and paint from a pro paint store.
