When applying paint with a roller, streaks are left behing on the wall. They dry and form ridges. Even when the walls are covered thouroughly the remaining effect looks terrible!

Sounds like to me you are using the wrong roller or are not applying your paint correctly. Make sure the roller texture matches the wall you are painting smooth for smooth, rough for rough and so on. When you load the roller do it evenly and roll off excess evenly, apply in a W pattern and roll out, in and blend from there. Streaks could be caused by something on the surface of the wall like old wallpaper glue, patches or cleaners. That being the case, since you already most likely have painted consider a faux finish to hide streaks. You should not have ridges if you applied properly
