If it is just a spatter or two. then sandpaper might be enough. Otherwise, paint stripper is normally best.

How much paint?

If the woodwork is painted with oil base enamel and the splatters are latex - products like 'goof off' or 'oops' may work. Often just 'scratching' off the offending specs is best.

If you need to completely strip the paint off the wood - sanding, paint stripper and even using a heat gun and scraper are all options.

Your question is a little vague, interior, exterior, what are you doing to the trim after the paint is off? There are instance when replacing the trim may be the best option...
