Roller texture

I am matching a roller texture on a new surface and am planning to thin joint compound with water and apply with a short nap roller. Any advice on how much water to add? Also, any other advice on this?

It will take some experimenting with the mix and the nap thickness. Recommend making up a practice board for experimenting, and using 2/3 paint with 1/3 water for cutting the mud, it improves the texture and workability. A carpet roller works nice for this....

I would add that the thicker the j/c the heavier the texture, thinner = lighter texture. Same goes for nap size, long nap roller will give a more pronounced texture, short nap = minimal texture.
