Paint to makeover kitchen tile floor

Been searching the forums extensively today and see a lot of veterans advising against painting tile for adhesion purposes.

My house is 10 years old. The original large 1' by 1' square tile covers the kitchen and dining floor. I don't really know what it's called, ceramic? Just regular biege, no sheen, random textured surface. It looks like this. The grout is mostly in good condition though i can see a few areas that would require some touch up if that is possible.

I am considering taking the artist approach to this to
1.painting a few tiles at a time to look like other tile in different parts of the house (fireplace, foyer entry floor) a varieted sage, grey, brown, rust type of random pattern till i'm done with the whole floor
2.repair the grout
3.stain the grout to match (take from white/bone to dark sage grey)

I also read the how to article here on painting over ceramic tile
Article doesn't entirely seem to be directed at floor tiles?

Never done anything like this before would like advice on sequence grout first? tile first? oil-based primer, paint, number of coats? I know for a fact that when i had my floor professionally clean a few months ago, he did seal the grout for cleaning purposes.

My advice would be to save your money and replace the tiles later. Paint won't adhere well to the tiles - you'll do a lot of work for a short life of the paint job
