Question Painting Stucco questions

Hello,

I live in Minneapolis and am about to paint my stucco.

1. Is there a preferred brand of paint? I've learned that I will need a 100% acrylic latex exterior paint. Should I get Behr Stucco paint from Home Depot, Sherwin Williams, Ben Moore, ,etc?

2. Does anyone know how much heat to a house if the stucco color is a darker grey or taupe? We have extreme temps here in Minnesota. Winters are cold but can be sunny and summers are hot and humid.

Thanks in advance !

Welcome to the forums Crissy!

Is this raw/new stucco? or a repaint? if repaint, what condition is the current paint in?

Most any quality latex house paint is suitable for stucco. Most paints labeled as masonry paint are a cheaper grade of paint and won't hold up as long as most latex house paints. Go to your local paint store, they'll have a good selection of paint to choose from [unlike a paint dept that usually stocks coatings based mainly on low price] Their help should also be more knowledgeable and able to answer questions pertaining to your climate. Generally the more you pay per gallon, the better the quality and how long it will last.

I know dark colors attract heat while light colors are more suited to reflect it but would think that the insulation in the wall would make that a non issue.

Hi, and thanks for the reply.

The house is ~60 years old and the stucco is in good condition. An addition was added to the house in 1980 and I believe they either re-stuccod the whole house or at least it was repainted because its a perfect match.

Thanks for the advice. I have some excellent paint stores in my area.
