Question

My home has a dark brick fireplace wall in our family room with a dark railroad tie for a mantel. The entire wall being brick and dark causes the room to look small. I am thinking of painting this wall. Any suggestions or ideas?

hi there ,

painting that brick wall a white or off white color will change the look of the room. Now as far as approach to painting goes. First wipe down or vaccum wall for dust and dirt. Prime existing brick with (1) one coat of latex flat masonry paint. Apply a second and or third coat of latex flat or latex eggshell ( match finish in remaining room )I hope this helps. Have Fun !!!!

PS. Leave the railroad tie as is. It will create nice contrast.
