Every manufacturer lists "how to paint your new door" on their website somewhere.
Heres the one from Clopay http://www.clopaydoor.com/publicfile...nstruction.pdf
Basically, clean, paint a test portion with a quality exterior latex, let dry and check for adhesion or other issues, then paint entire door.
Better coatings can be found at a real paint store, not a big box paint dept. I'd suggest getting their best product as the door will receive more weather and sun abuse than most other parts of the house.

Are you sure the door is made of aluminum? all the metal garage doors I've painted have been light weight steel.
Often these doors have a light film of oil on them from shipping or maybe the manufacturing process. Wash the door with soap and water, rinse well..... or you could wipe the door down with a wet thinner rag [folding or changing rag often] to remove the oil film.
Once the door is clean and dry, apply a good quality exterior house paint. It can either be sprayed or rolled. Brush and roller will likely take 2 coats, 1 coat is fine if spraying.
