We were quoted a very high price to paint a faux finish on the existing wall covering. It was applied by preious owners and it is a beautiful raw silk. I like the look very much but it is yellow in places where the paste seeped through the fabric. I am just wondering if anyone knows of any treatment available to treat the fabric, or what other solutions are available before I give in and remove or paint over it. I think painting over it would preserve the texture, however I am wondering if anyone has seen the result of this technique and if it is worth the trouble.

It sounds as if it is a light color, maybe white of off white. If this is so try this in a hidden area: using only oxygen bleach or mix 1 part hydrogen peroxide (3%) to 8 parts water. Hope this helps. Note: Don't soak the fabric! If you see it lightening go over it again after each drying (you won't see the true color till it drys) do this till you get what you like.
