White Paint Yellowed Almost Immediately?
Painted raw, never finished cabinets in my kitchen. SW Multi-Purpose Latex Primer. Two coats of SW Pro Classics Acrylic Latex. Frames yellowed immediately (under 30 days) more so than the doors. But sections of the doors soon followed. Is there a remedy? Should I have used a different paint? How can I avoid it in the future?
Thanks

What kind of wood? Were the cabinets brand new, or had they been in the house unfinished for a while?

Oak needs an oil based primer followed by a light sanding... I have had the same results when painting it with latex.

It sounds like it's tannins bleeding thru the latex primer/paint. The only fix I'm aware of is to apply a solvent based primer to seal the wood. I'd sand the cabinets well [not to sand off the latex but to give a good base for the oil primer] and then repaint with your latex enamel. Whenever there is any chance that anything will bleed thru the paint - use a solvent based primer first.
More latex paint won't help, you could apply 10 more coats of latex and while it would slow down the bleeding, it won't stop it

Yeah, oil based paint in white is a bad choice because it will yellow but you needed to seal the wood, which takes an oil based primer. After that, your latex paint will not yellow.

Thanks for the help guys. I'm spending the next few days sanding and priming everything, then will repaint...will post results.
Sure is fun re-doing all of this work.
Lesson learned though.
