Painting surface

We had a hallway and one wall in the lr wallpapered. The wallpaper was removed and the wall not thoroughly cleaned from the paste. After repainting the surface had a crackled look to it. What can be done to make it smooth the next time it is painted?

Now that its been painted over, the wall will need to be completely skim coated with joint compound and sanded before its ready to paint again.

I agree!! Whenever it's not feasible to remove all the adhesive it's imperative that the wall be coated with either Zinnser's Gardz or an oil base primer..... but it's too late for that now. I'd sand, skim coat, sand and remove the dust, prime and paint.
