Painting Terrazzo Floor Before Hardwood Floor installation
I thought I'd get some opinions before if decide to do this...
I live in florida in a older block home with terrazzo floors. My plan is to install 3/4" hardwood flooring thoughout the house. Details include following a procedure to lay a 6mil vapor barrier directly over the floor and fasten a 3/4" subfloor on top using 1 3/4" tapcons spaced 8" along the perimeter and 12" in the center. The 3/4" oak will be fastened directly over the 4 x 8 sheets of subfloor.
That said, would it be of any additional benefit if I painted the terrazzo floors to act as a moisture barrier before I add the poly? It is my primary resistance and I expect to stay in my home for a very long time. I don't mind spending the extra $$ if it will provide some additional benefit.
Thanks!

We recently removed tile and thin set off the terrazzo, so it does have a scuffed surface. I don't think adherence would be a problem. If it helps reducing moisture, I'd be inclined to paint it.
thanks!

For a coating to adhere properly it needs to have a clean substrate. Terrazzo is almost indestructible. I've worked on some rentals that had carpet over terrazzo and the wore out carpet was removed and even though the terrazzo looked horrible, they were able to clean it and buff it out - looked just as good as it did 30-40 yrs earlier.

No, the paint would provide no benefit, it would not be worth the time and expense to paint the floor.
