Painting Ceramic or Porcelain Lamp Base

I have a lamp base that is either ceramic or porcelain that I would like to refinish. Can anyone tell me if it can be painted, and if so, what is the best method and product to use?

It's not a good idea to paint ceramic/porcelain, it' not a substrate that lends it self to good adhesion of coatings. A tub and tile paint might work ok although I doubt you can get it in a container small enough to make it a viable option. If I had to paint it, I'd coat it with Zinnser's BIN and then finish it with your choice of paint...... replacing the lamp might be a better option IMO.
