Hi, We bought our house 10 years ago and had it professionally painted before we moved in. As far as I can recall the paint on the house was probably the original paint (house was built in 1980) but was still in reasonable condition as I don't recall any problems when we inspected the house initially. Within months of having the house painted the bathroom ceiling started to peel off, and after 10 years some parts are back to plaster. We've also had some damage in the kitchen and laundry. I'm guessing moisture is a cause (all rooms are well ventilated with fans). I've been looking at some forums and as best as I can tell it's possible the original pain used was ceramic and this doesn't cope well when newer paints are added on top? Does anyone have advice on how to best remove the rest of the existing paint and then how to prepare the plaster (does it need to be sealed or something before repainting)? Is this something that can be done by a painting novice or should I call in a professional? I'm guessing it's a crap job that most painters couldn't be bothered with. Or would I be best to look at replacing the plaster in these rooms? Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated. I'll post a picture of the damage so you can see what I'm talking about. We are in the process of a complete exterior paint job on my house. (It's coming out beautiful, by the way ;) ). Anyway, one of the problems I see is that some overspray drifted onto the lower edges of our new roof. The paint used is a good quality exterior water based latex. The roof is shingle. Is there a way to remove the paint from the roof? Thank you.
