Question

I'm painting dark finished kitchen cabinets and will be using your advice on prepping them for painting. However, I'd like to give them an antique finish, i.e., paint on - sand off kind-of-look to make them look worn. Any advice on how best to achieve this? Thanks.

Lightbulb antiquing

There are several ways you can go about it. 1. Leave the dark finish there, it will add to the old look. 2. Where you want it to look worn rub candle wax on in those areas. 3. Paint the color of your choice on top of the cabinets. 4. The paint should not adhere where the wax was put, if you want to remove more, after it drys in those areas. 5. You can also do a crackle effect and sand the areas that are well used like corners and where ever you would grab. 6. If you want you can vanish or polyurethane to protect it.
